The new dashboard features a built-in link to our Appcelerator-wide search facility. Type your query in the "Search" box and search across documentation and API simultaneously.
When Titanium Studio initially launches, it will welcome you to using the product and display a configuration screen. Clicking the "Let's get started" button takes you to a screen listing your current configuration status.
Assuming you haven't yet set up your mobile SDKs, you'll see question marks over the Android and iOS icons (iOS will only appear on OSX machines).
Android configuration is a several step process.
- Install the Oracle/Sun JDK (if on a Windows Machine)
- Install the Android SDK
- Upgrade the Android SDK to include the required platforms and add-ons.
To begin, click the "Install or Update" button to the right. It will first ask you where you wish to store your Android SDK, and then complete the update process by launching the Android SDK manager.
The SDK manager can be a little confusing. When it first launches, you can choose to download a complete list of all suggested platforms, or just the ones necessary. However, make sure you choose Accept All in the "Choose Packages to Install" dialog box, or otherwise it won't download an option.
Currently, you need to make sure the following are installed:
- Android SDK platforms 2.1.* and 2.2.*
- Platform-tools version 8 or greater.
- SDK Tools version 14 or greater.
- Google APIs v7, Google APIs v8
Once the process is complete, the configuration page will refresh.
iOS configuration is a bit simpler. Once you click the "Install iOS" button, it will do the following:
- Launch a web browser to show Xcode in the Mac App Store online.
- Click "View in Mac App Store" which launches the App Store application to the XCode page
- Start the download of Xcode and complete the installation
Once that is complete, return to the configuration screen. You're all set up!
The learn tab contains a complete set of videos from the Zero-to-App course, and the BNAPP (Building Native Applications) course. Click on a video to launch it in a window to view. Below the videos are quick links to important developer resources.
The develop tab is the new location for starting your application, or new sample applications showcasing best-practice application development techniques.
The explore tab is your gateway to the marketplace. here you can see the top-rated marketplace items, and click to view them online. Future versions of the dashboard will allow in-Studio purchase, download and installation of modules.
